THE Penang International Airport (PIA) will be expanded, Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook assured.
Loke said PIA was over capacity and the expansion was urgently needed.
“This is the most needed expansion project in the country right now.
“The expansion of the airport is at the top of our list. It will be expanded.
“However, the Transport Ministry has not decided whether the airport should have a separate terminal, or the expansion involves enhancing the existing terminal.
“We are at the ‘very advanced stage’ of looking at the proposals and will be making our decision soon.
“We will make the announcement once we have decided,” Loke responded to a question today whether a need was there to have a Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) at the PIA.
Also present was Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
