ANY first-time visitor to Monitor ERP System Sdn Bhd, located at the AIA Building in Straits Quay, is likely to be captivated by the stunning office design that exudes a relaxed atmosphere.

The harmonious blend of functional yet stylish furniture and the spacious layout creates an inviting environment perfect for collaboration and innovation.

Swedish companies are known for their open-plan layouts with flexible spaces, cosy breakout areas for informal meetings, and quiet zones for reflection – Monitor ERP exemplifies this approach.

This commitment to design and sustainability was especially noted by Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo, who oversees the Human Capital Development, Science and Technology portfolio, during his visit to Monitor today.

Jagdeep expressed his gratitude to Daniel Haggmark, Southeast Asia chief executive officer of Monitor ERP, after a brief tour of the office. He also shook hands with several employees, including support manager Lee Chian Liang, the company’s longest-serving local employee, who has been with Monitor for nine years.

Jagdeep remarked that Monitor’s decision to base its operations outside of the typical industrial areas of Bayan Lepas, Bayan Baru, or Batu Kawan highlights Penang’s rapid development and expansion.

“Monitor has operations in 15 other countries, and in Malaysia, it chose Penang as its largest base outside of its headquarters in Sweden. This is the right place for Monitor, as Penang is the biggest electrical and electronics (E&E) hub, with 6,000 SMEs and 450 multinational corporations (MNCs).

“Since starting here in 2013, Monitor has grown to employ about 100 staff members and is on track to expand its workforce to 200 in the near future. I’m pleased that they are harnessing local talent, and I am here to facilitate and offer my support,” Jagdeep said.

Also present during the visit were J. Philip Vincent, a council member of th Penang Skills Development Corporation; Tyreal Tai, sales director; Chan Yeong Yin, consultant manager; Gordon Chuah, area sales manager and Chuah Sue Ann, marketing manager.

Haggmark expressed his honour at meeting Jagdeep for the first time, adding that the company fully supports the Penang2030 vision of striving towards “A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation.”

Providing a brief history of the company, Haggmark explained that Monitor ERP was founded 50 years ago by Ake Persson. Today, it is an award-winning system that empowers over 6,000 companies globally, including 200 in Southeast Asia. Optimised for manufacturers, Monitor ERP is a ready-to-use system that supports diverse industries and helps businesses of all sizes thrive.

Haggmark also emphasised the company’s focus on sustainability, noting the growing global concern about carbon emissions, particularly in Europe.

He shared that Monitor has long been involved in sports development and has sponsored several top athletes, including Olympic badminton champion Viktor Axelsen.

“We believe in promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Of course, we perform better and work more efficiently when we are healthy. Supporting sports is also a great way for branding. We are proud of Viktor because his values — hard work and always giving his best — align perfectly with what we stand for,” Haggmark said.
