More cheer for SGGS students as school gets 10 LED spotlights

ST Georges’ Girls School in Penang has brightened up with the installation of 10 LED spotlights at its entrance and exit points recently.

Its lush compound and the many rainforest trees nearby have made SGGS the envy of many schools but there are often times the area can be quite dark.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Kaliyappan P. Renganathan came to the school’s aid by looking at its request for the installation of spotlights.

Kaliyappan said he used RM6,840 from his MBPP allocation to instal the lights and also change the electrical cables.

“I’m happy to be able to give some support to the school for the safety of its students. The school compound is still dark in the early morning hours.

“This effort is in line with the state government’s mission of providing a cleaner, greener, safer and healthier Penang,” he told a press conference at the school’s administration office today.

Lee said he would raise other issues faced by the school like rotten trees, the presence of pests like snakes, mice and others to the authorities concerned.

“I hope these problems will be taken care off and resolved as soon as possible,” he said.

Also present was school principal Athiyah Abd Razak.
