THE Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) and the Scouts Association of Malaysia (Penang) are now the supporting partners of the World Congress on Information Technology 2022 (WCIT2022).
The two bodies will be participating as volunteers and promoting the event to their members and business network.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held in Komtar yesterday evening (March 17) and it was witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow. Also present was state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
The 26th edition of the WCIT will be held in Penang from Sept 13 to 15. It promises a power-packed three-day event showcasing the future of technology across various sectors including education, health and lifestyle, food, cybersecurity, agriculture, entrepreneurship, and others.
National Tech Association of Malaysia (Pikom) is the organiser of the WCIT2022.
Another main feature of WCIT2022 is the 10-day Penang Techfest, which will be taking place from Sept 8 to 18. Penang Techfest will feature headlines that include 5G zone with autonomous vehicle testing, street eSports, HealthTech, smart cities, SpaceTech, and the multiverse.
Pikom chairman Dr Sean Seah expressed his appreciation to PCCC and the Scouts Association of Malaysia (Penang) for realising the partnership.
“We welcome them on board and we thank them for supporting WCIT2022,” he said.
Dr Seah also announced the launching of the SEADragon programme at the MoU signing ceremony.
“The SEADragon programme is an initiative by Pikom which started in 2018.
“It is the premier Venture Pitch Platform for start-ups and scale-ups.
“The platform focuses on investments, growth and global market expansion via curated deal flow where promising companies will be shortlisted, coached and equipped to be showcased to tech venture capitalists (VCs) and investors globally,” he said, before announcing the institutional partnership between Pikom, SEATech Ventures and GreenPro Capital for the programme.
Dr Seah said that a series of pitching events and training would be held to select and prepare the companies from this month, as a run-up to WCIT2022.
“We are looking for the best among us to be showcased at WCIT2022,” he said.
Chow said the fourth steering committee meeting for the WCIT2022 had concluded yesterday (March 17).
“Among the issues that were discussed include the planning for the programme, the logistics involved, fundings, and marketing strategies.
“WCIT2022 presents an opportunity for the country, especially for Penang, with the reopening of Malaysia’s international borders on April 1.
“I have asked the team to ensure that our preparations for the event must include safety and standard operating procedure (SOP) adherence by both local and foreign visitors.
“We look forward to a great event in September this year.
“It is important that we engage the local community, be it business or the people, to be part of this global event. WCIT2022 will create a lasting and meaningful impact for Penang,” he said.
Also present were PCCC deputy president Datuk Tan Hiang Joo, PCCC YES chairman Leon Lee, PCCC YES deputy chairman Chris Tan, Penang Chief Scouts commissioner Zulkafli Kamaruddin, Penang State Scouts Council honorary treasurer Ong Ewe Keat, Penang State Headquarters commissioner Chew Kok Rui, SEATech Ventures chief executive officer C.S. Chin, GreenPro Capital chief executive officer Dr C.K. Lee, and GreenPro Academy representative Chiu Kai Mun.
