More than just a hotel, Amari SPICE Penang is about arts and culture

ARTS and culture are two key elements that define Penang, and guess what, we now have a new hotel in the southwest district on the island that displays artworks that showcase the uniqueness of Penang.

It is not often you walk into a hotel and find yourself surrounded by ornaments and artworks that are culturally influenced.

That is why Amari SPICE Penang is truly a special place to be because it offers you colourful and vibrant experiences through Penang’s iconic cultures and values.

The hotel’s interior design theme is based on Penang’s pulsating energy, its fusion colonial, oriental and local influences of the Pearl of the Orient.

The hotel also focuses on the contemporary Peranakan influence, which is a unique culture found here in Penang.

There is also a wall located along one of the stretches inside the hotel, that’s dedicated to showcase artworks by talented Malaysian artists.

It was learnt that the artworks belong to winners of an art competition, called Setia KARYA, an initiative by SP Setia Berhad.

Amari SPICE Penang is a hospitality business partnership between ONYX Hospitality Group and SP Setia Berhad.

With decades of experience running some of Thailand’s most successful hotel operations, ONYX has built strong networks that span the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.

Directly connected to the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, the hotel offers 453 contemporary designed guest rooms and suites with home-from-home warmth and thoroughly designed touches.

The hotel offers several multi-dimensional gastronomic experiences, such as the Amaya Food Gallery (all-day dining restaurant), Cascade (a cozy lobby lounge that offers teas, barista coffee, cocktails and handcrafted fine pastries) and the D’Observatory Sky Bar (rooftop bar).

Other facilities such as the FIT Centre (gymnasium), swimming pool and a spa are made available for the guests too.

It was earlier learnt from Hoo that the hotel is expected to fully open its doors for guests from Nov 1 onwards.

“Further details on the room bookings and other information will be published on the hotel’s website very soon,” she added.

The hotel’s general manager is Noorazzudin Omar, a veteran who has had a comprehensive 30-year journey in the hospitality industry, leading some well-known brands, such as Marriott, Mayfair, Impiana, Mutiara, Cyberview, Sama-Sama and many others.

In a recently released press statement, Noorazzudin said his unique ‘CFO’ – Communication, Follow Through and Ownership leadership philosophy is the essence of effective hospitality.

He also said that ‘CFO’ also means Caring for Others.

“When you care for your team members, you will help to build the hotel’s vision and to lead the team to achieve the hotel’s goals,” he said.
