Moulding young ‘green’ heroes

HOW well do you know your greens?

Some 50 children who took part in the Organic Young Farmers programme at Gurney Paragon Mall here would probably know them better than most people now.

Organised by the Persiaran Gurney Village Community Management Council (MPKK),  the event taught these young children the life cycle of plants, how plants are grown and how to promote a sustainable environment.

They also learnt how to design flower pots and make vegetable sandwiches!

The event was open to children aged between seven and 12.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee said he was happy to see parents being supportive of their children at the event.

“It is great to see parents encouraging their children to participate in such events and interact more with other children.

“We need to expose them more to nature in this digital age,” he said today.

Lee encouraged the young to do gardening.

“However, growing vegetables in pots is an ideal solution for those who do not have sufficient space to do gardening,” he said.

The programme was conducted by Universiti Sains Malaysia.
