ALL Village Community Management Councils (MPKK) in Penang have been urged to play an active role to ensure that government policies are carried out effectively.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this at the Chinese New Year Appreciation Dinner hosted by Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng at the Youth Centre in Lebuh Acheh tonight.

“I would like not only the MPKK from Komtar but also all the constituencies to be the bridge between the government and the public,” Chow said in his speech.

“MPKK has a very important responsibility to disseminate accurate information from the government to the people and vice versa.

“They need to enlighten the public on why policies have been implemented and that some good policies take some time to see their effectiveness.”

Chow added that he understood there was a need for the government to have dialogue sessions with MPKK so that the MPKK members and leaders are kept informed about government policies.

Chow also acknowledged the important role played by the Women & Family Development Committee (JPWK).

In concluding his speech, Chow said it was time to reflect on their achievements of the past and to consolidate their strength to face 2020 together.

Teh praised various groups, such as the MBPP workers, MPKK, JPWK and the police, among others, for their invaluable services.

He said he appreciated the MBPP workers for their quick response when they are needed.

Teh also complimented the police for curbing criminal activities.

The guests are being treated to a sumptuous buffet at the event.

Besides being treated to a delicious buffet, the 200-odd guests were also entertained by a singer.

To make the event livelier, a lucky draw was held.

Among those present were MBPP councillors Wong Yuee Harng and Alan Lim, former MBPP councillor Gerald Mak and representatives from some political parties.
