THE Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP), which is the biggest municipality in the country, has vowed it would not stop its crackdown on illegal dumping activities.
Its president Datuk Rozali Mohamud said such activities would not be tolerated and that they would go all out by taking action against the perpetrators involved.
He said MPSP fully supported the state government’s initiative to take stern action as a deterrent to future offenders.
“We won’t stop here but we will make sure those involved will not escape the brunt of law,” he told a press conference after attending a full-council meeting at MPSP headquarters in Bandar Perda today.
Rozali’s warning came after the landowner of an illegal dumpsite in Bukit Teh was fined RM2,000 at a Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The operator of a nearby illegal factory was also reportedly fined with the same amount.
On March this year, a large illegal dumpsite had been found in Bukit Teh near Machang Bubok.
Authorities have since launched a major crackdown against those involved.
Rozali also stressed that the council has managed to reduce numbers of illegal dumpsites from 2014 till to date.
“Our ongoing efforts have seen much improvement over these years,” he added.
