PINANG Tunggal in Kepala Batas is set to become a popular eco-tourism spot that promotes mural creativity and homestays.
Caretaker Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman (Petace) Yeoh Soon Hin said he was elated with Pinang Tunggal’s huge potential and tourism development.
“The creativity and artistic talent of the students in painting the murals in two days is a significant milestone in enhancing tourism in the state.
“It is indeed our initiative to promote such learning experiences involving the primary school students,” he said in his speech after evaluating the murals painted at the various homestays in Pinang Tunggal yesterday.
Yeoh said that the local tourism industry would be boosted by this initiative.
“The lush green environment in this area can attract locals and tourists abroad to visit the site,” he added.
Yeoh also congratulated the nine schools that took part in the mural colouring competition.
The schools that emerged winners were SJK (C) Mak Mandin, followed by first runner-up SJK (C) True Light and second runner-up SJK (C) Li Hwa Butterworth.
Consolation prizes were awarded to SJK (C) Chin Hwa Pinang Tunggal, SJK (C) Chung Hwa Pusat Butterworth, SJK (C) Seng Keow, SJK (C) Kai Chee Sungai Dua, SJK (C) Pei Yu Kepala Batas, and SJK (C) Kwang Hwa Butterworth.
Lay Hock Peng, who is the caretaker Chief Minister’s special coordinating officer, said he was delighted with the support from Petace.
He emphasised that this endeavour would undoubtedly contribute to the growth of tourism in Pinang Tunggal and hoped that the area would be developed sustainably to attract more visitors.
