N95 Masks Donated to MBPP

Story by Amanda Khong

THE Penang Island City Council (MBPP) received 1,000 N95 valveless safety masks from Safetyware Group on Oct 23 for use by council personnel while carrying out their duties during the haze that shrouded Penang recently.

MBPP councillors Joseph Ng, Tan Kim Hooi, Connie Tan and Nur Zarina Zakaria were present at Komtar to receive the masks on behalf of MBPP.

The term N95 refers to the filter class of the mask.

The “N” refers to the filter’s oil resistance classification as “Not resistant to oil”, and the 95 suggests that the mask filters out at least 95% of airborne particles.

“Apart from these 1,000 masks, MBPP has also ordered around 4,000 N95 valve respirator masks for all our staff. Priority will be given to the Urban Services (JPP), enforcement officers, and building inspectors as they have to work while dealing with the worsening haze on a daily basis,” Ng said.} else {
