The food basket programme was meant to assist those in need during this trying period.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the flat in Noordin Street Ghaut was the final location of the nine public housing schemes identified for the food basket programme.

“The programme was held at Taman Free School Flats, Ampang Jajar Flats, Padang Tembak Flats, Taman Manggis People’s Housing Project (PPR), Desa Wawasan, Taman Bagan Jaya’s PPR, Pelangi Flats, and Jawi III Flats previously.

“Overall, a total of 1,000 food baskets were prepared for the needy families in these nine public housing schemes.

“One hundred food baskets are allocated for the eligible families here in Noordin Street Ghaut. I hope that this small contribution can reduce their burden,” he said in his speech before distributing the food baskets to the needy families.

Only 20 families were selected to receive the aid during the event due to strict standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance. The remaining food baskets will be distributed to the recipients accordingly.

Separately, Chow said the state has spent a total of RM293.93 million to help maintain eligible public and private housing schemes.

“We will continue with our efforts to ensure the well-being of those staying in public or private housing schemes are looked into,” he added.

State Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo was thankful to Chow for attending the event.

“Special thanks to the state Housing Board for coming up with this food basket programme for the selected public housing schemes,” he said.
