THE residents of Kampung Sungai Udang in Sungai Acheh, Nibong Tebal, can now enjoy a new basketball court and jogging track – courtesy of the Penang government.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said construction works of the new basketball court and the 200-metre jogging track were completed at a cost of RM239,700.
“I would like to thank the Sungai Udang MPKK (Village Community Management Council) for suggesting to us the need to have the new basketball court and jogging track here.
“This shows that the state government cares for the people’s needs and their welfare regardless of where they are staying in the state, be it on the island or mainland.
“It is hoped that the new basketball court and jogging track will help promote a healthy community here and spur an interest, especially among the youths, to be active in sports,” Chow said in his speech before launching the new facilities at Kampung Sungai Udang in Sungai Acheh, Nibong Tebal today.
Also present were Sungai Bakap assemblyman Datuk Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, who is also the foster assemblyman (adun angkat) for Sungai Acheh, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who is also Chow’s political secretary, and Sungai Udang MPKK chairman Chew Thong Tai.
The launching ceremony also was part of Chow’s ‘Jelajah ❤️ Penang’ programme in Nibong Tebal today.
Chow also announced that a new bridge and a rubbish depot would be built at Kampung Sungai Udang to improve the connectivity and maintain the cleanliness of the area.
Earlier, Chow had also visited the Sungai Chenaam Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK), where he was given a tour and briefing on the rearing of ‘siakap’ fish there.
