HAVING first-class infrastructure and facilities is important to promote Penang as the destination of choice for the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow conveyed this sentiment when he attended the ‘Topping-Out for Penang Waterfront Convention Centre’ (PWCC) ceremony today.
“The Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC) is an iconic project that we are eagerly looking forward to. This is a space that we are very excited to showcase to both locals and the business community.
“There will be an LRT station built near the PWCC,” Chow said.
Chow also added that the Setia SPICE Convention Centre has been receiving good responses over the years with various MICE activities being held there.
Apart from that, Chow said that the state government stays committed to enhancing the state’s public transport via initiatives such as the Komtar-Bayan Lepas Light Rail Transit Line as part of the broader Penang Transport Master Plan.
“The state government is continually working to enhance our infrastructure as a means of stimulating economic growth in the city, attracting inward investment, and retaining talents.
“We will continue with our efforts to establish Penang as the preferred destination for tourists and a place of choice for sustainable living for the residents,” he said.
It is learned that PWCC is set to become Penang’s largest convention centre, spanning over 330,000 square feet and offering more than 2,900 parking spaces.
The PWCC comprises various interconnected elements within its ecosystem, including ‘The Waterfront Shoppes’, a hotel and office tower, a commercial tower, and luxurious high-rise residences known as Mezzo and Essence.
The PWCC is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
