VOLUNTEER firefighters have made significant sacrifices during emergencies in the community. Their courageous efforts in assisting rescue operations have been lauded by people from all walks of life.
The Sungai Puyu Volunteer Fire Brigade in Butterworth has reason to celebrate after raising RM813,000 through a fundraising dinner and other noble efforts.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, present at the fundraising dinner in Sungai Puyu, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the cause.
“I understand that the contributions will be used for the construction of a new fire station for the Sungai Puyu Volunteer Fire Brigade. These unsung heroes have provided crucial assistance during emergencies and incidents in the neighbourhood.
“The state is also supporting this cause by contributing RM30,000 to the volunteer fire brigade. I hope these funds will assist them.
“The state has also allocated a 13,500 sqft plot of land in Sungai Puyu for the construction of a new fire station,” Chow said during the dinner today.
Established in 1995, the Sungai Puyu Volunteer Fire Brigade has played a pivotal role in helping the community.
Chow praised their commitment, noting their immediate assistance during this year’s water cut.
“Their invaluable commitment to society must be respected by people from all segments,” he stressed.
In addition to the state’s contribution, the Housing and Local Government Ministry allocated RM20,000, while state Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu and the Bagan parliamentary each contributed RM10,000.
Menglembu assemblyman Steven Chaw, representing Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, expressed hope that the allocation would enable the volunteer firefighters to conduct their tasks smoothly.
Sungai Puyu Volunteer Fire Brigade chairman Tan Kok Keong thanked the donors, saying: “I believe our fire brigade will continue to shine and help the community relentlessly in the future.”
Other attendees at the dinner included Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze, former Sungai Puyu assemblyman Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh, and other guests.
