LOCATED in the heart of George Town, The George hotel had its grand opening today and it is set to add more liveliness to the neighbourhood.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present at the launching ceremony, said The George’s team has created a new milestone in Penang’s hospitality history.
“I would like to congratulate and thank each and every one of them for their hard work.
“I look forward to The George adding vibrancy to this part of the heritage zone by bringing more exciting events to the hotel,” Chow said during his speech.
Chow added that everybody can play the role of an ambassador for Penang to bring value to the tourism industry.
“All relevant stakeholders can work together to come out with the best tourism products, be it value-added and innovative packages, interesting and varied events or exciting tourism venues.
“I strongly believe that by working together, we will be able to propel Penang to greater heights in line with Penang2030 vision,” he added.
Also present were state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, The George managing director Catherine Teoh and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Penang office) director Jonathan Freddy Bagang.
It is learned that the hotel was completed after almost 10 years, as it had to comply with the heritage guidelines since it is located within the George Town heritage zone.
The George has 92 rooms that are furnished in a classic and elegant style and it also has 30 suites.
The hotel is located at Penang Road (opposite Line Clear Nasi Kandar).
The amenities at the hotel include a steam room, gym and saltwater pool.
It is scheduled to operate from Dec 23 this year.
