A TOTAL of seven blocks at Macallum Street Ghaut have been installed with new lifts to provide a conducive living environment for the residents.
According to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, the state government contributed RM3.7 million to instal the new lifts at the flats which were by Penang Development Corporation (PDC).
“With the completion of final lift replacement works at Block 350, the residents at all the blocks can now enjoy the newly-installed lifts.
“The total cost of replacing new lifts at this block (Block 350) was RM651,900.00 in which more than 80% (RM575,301.75) of the total cost was borne by PDC and the balance (RM76,598.25) by the residents.
“I believe this will provide a conducive living environment for the residents, on top of that the newly-installed lifts use the access card system,’’ Chow said when he visited Block 350 at Macallum Street Ghaut in the morning.
The seven blocks comprised Block 348, Block 352, Block 354, Block 358, Block 360, Block 362 and Block 350.
Chow added that the fire safety system at Block 350 was upgraded at the cost of RM10,000 and it was an allocation from him as the Tanjong MP.
“The flats at Macallum Street are a unique project whereby each block has its own Management Committee which made it difficult to manage the matters concerning maintenance works.
“Luckily, with the efficient work of the former state representatives Ng Wei Aik and Lau Keng Ee, some critical maintenance works were done using the ‘state Housing Maintenance Maximum 80:20 Fund’.
“Recently, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, with the cooperation from PDC, had helped to form the Management Committee for Pangsapuri Pelangi at Macallum Street Ghaut,” said Chow.
Also present was Block 350 Macallum Street Ghaut Management Committee chairman Henry Oh.
