New mayor for MBSP

THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) announced today the appointment of Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid as its new mayor, succeeding Datuk Azhar Arshad.

Azhar, who served as MBSP mayor since 2022, has been promoted to the position of State Secretary of Melaka, effective June 24 this year.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow attended the swearing-in ceremony at the MBSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam, and expressed his satisfaction with Baderul’s promotion.

“With Azhar’s appointment as State Secretary of Melaka, the position of MBSP mayor became vacant. We are pleased to appoint Baderul to lead MBSP.

“I believe Baderul is well-equipped to lead the council due to his extensive experience, knowledge, expertise, and dedication, having served MBSP since 1991.

“His 33 years of experience are more than sufficient for him to continue MBSP’s legacy.

“Managing Seberang Perai is challenging due to its sizeable population, but I have full confidence in Baderul’s ability to shoulder this significant responsibility,” Chow said.

Chow stressed that the future of Penang lies in Seberang Perai and hoped that MBSP would continue to deliver excellent services to its residents.

Penang Local Government, Town, and Country Planning Committee chairman H’ng Mooi Lye also expressed his delight at Baderul’s appointment.

“I hope he will elevate MBSP to greater heights,” he said.

In his inaugural speech, Baderul, who was formerly MBSP secretary, expressed gratitude to the state for the opportunity and emphasised his commitment to working with council staff and councillors to deliver the best services to the community.

“Feedback is welcome to further improve the council’s services,” he said.

Notable attendees included State Secretary Datuk Rosli Isa, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, state Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Religious Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, Penang Agrotechnology, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Committee chairman Fahmi Zainol, state Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi, state Trade, Entrepreneurial and Rural Development Committee chairman Rashidi Zinol, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung, and Bagan Jermal assemblyman Chee Yeeh Keen.
