BEGINNING January 1, 2025, Penang Smart Parking (PSP) users in designated locations in Seberang Perai will have to pay a 50% increase in parking fees.
Under the revised rates announced today, the new charges will be RM0.80 per hour (up from RM0.40), RM6 per day (up from RM3) and RM150 per month (up from RM75).
A new 30-minute parking rate of RM0.40 will be introduced.
The monthly RM200 long-term charge for fixed parking spaces at certain business premises will remain unchanged.
Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Baderul Amin Abdul Hamid, who announced the parking fees adjustment, said it was necessary to increase the rates after 29 years.
“This increase is in line with our initiatives to add value to the infrastructure development in Seberang Perai and to promote sustainable growth.
“We hope the public will understand the need for this adjustment,” he told a press conference at the MBSP headquarters in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam.
Seberang Perai currently has 22,000 parking spaces equipped with battery censors under the PSP system, while another 2,000 spaces are monitored by camera censors.
Baderul expressed his vision of transforming Seberang Perai into a livable and inclusive city.
