THE Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) at Bukit Jawi Golf Resort in Nibong Tebal resumed operation today under a new scheme, known as ‘Program Vaksinasi Barisan Sektor Ekonomi Negeri Pulau Pinang’ or PVac.
PVac is one of the Penang government’s initiatives in the form of public-private strategic cooperation to accelerate the vaccination process among economic sector workers to help achieve 80% herd immunity in the state.
State Agrotech and Food Security, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin said the PVac initiative only focuses on those from non-manufacturing sectors.
“They include farmers, breeders, retailers and those who works in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
“It is managed by the State Economic Planning Division (BPEN).
“At the moment, we will administer a total of 20,000 vaccine doses at the centre. We may increase it to another 20,000 doses at a later date but it is subject to vaccine supply,” she told Buletin Mutiara when contacted today.
When the PPV at the golf resort started operation on June 16, it catered to only the manufacturing sector.
The Bukit Jawi Golf Resort PPV head Dr Najeemu Hamzah said the centre has the capacity to administer 600 doses of Covid-19 vaccines per day.
“A total of 45 manpower (medical and non-medical) will be on duty at this PPV every day.
“As medical frontliners, we will do our best to vaccinate as many people as possible to achieve herd immunity in the state,” she said.
