THE Cecil Street Market and Hawker Centre is now equipped with a recycling station, an initiative by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the station is divided into four sections to accommodate different types of waste: plastic, electronic waste, paper and metal.

Rajendran said the station is divided into four sections to accommodate different types of waste: plastic, electronic waste, paper and metal.

“The objective of this recycling station is to educate people about the importance of waste segregation.

“We can observe nowadays that various types of waste are being discarded in regular trash cans and on the roadside.

“Thus, with this recycling station, we hope to guide the public on how to dispose of their unwanted waste correctly,” Rajendran said in his speech.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, who officiated the event yesterday (Aug 17), urged all the hawkers and residents nearby to make full use of the new facility. He emphasised the importance of community participation in environmental protection.
