New site for Medan Angsana daily market traders and hawkers

THE traders and hawkers of the daily market in Medan Angsana, Bandar Baru Farlim, have obtained the approval from Penang Island City Council (MBPP) to operate their businesses at an empty ground within the neighbourhood.

This was announced by MBPP councillor Nicholas Theng, who is also the alternate chairman of Licensing & Public Health Committee during the full board council meeting at City Hall today.

According to Theng, the application was received from the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) of Medan Angsana to relocate the traders and hawkers at the proposed space.

“We (MBPP) have given the licence to Medan Angsana MPKK to organise the daily market except for Wednesdays from 7am until 10pm.

“They were given three different sessions to operate their businesses – 7am to 12 noon, 11am to 5pm and 3pm to 10pm.

“The approval is given for a total of 70 lots in which they have to abide by the guidelines set by the council to control activities pertaining to morning markets, night markets, weekend markets as well as the agro-based markets,” said Theng.

He also added that the organiser needs to place volunteers to control the crowd so that it would not disrupt the traffic flow as well as to ensure the standard operating procedure compliance.

On a separate matter, MBPP councillor Abdul Latif Mohamad said the council would be imposing charges to process any applications pertaining to change of name of the parks developed in the areas administred by MBPP.

“For each application submitted before the approval of the Advertising Permit and Developer’s License (APDL)’, a fee of RM250 will be charged whereas for those applications submitted after the approval of the ‘APDL’, a fee of RM1,000 will be charged effective May 1, “he added.
