CHIEF Minister Lim Guan Eng announced on Dec 17 the appointment of Ab Wahab Long as his special officer in the implementation of the Equitable Economic Agenda.
Ab Wahab, 58, a native of Kedah, obtained his Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) from Monash University in Melbourne in 1980.
Upon graduation, his first job was with IBM Malaysia as its data processing (DP) trainee and in a mere 12-month period, he became a full-fledged IBM systems engineer, one of those who gained the fastest promotion at the time.
He left IBM in 1987 to join Computer Processing Services Sdn Bhd (CPS) as its Country Sales Manager cum Deputy Managing Director. CPS was owned by Straits Steamship Group under Keppel Corporation which in turn, belongs to Temasek Holdings, an investment arm of the Singapore Treasury.
Ab Wahab’s other stints include being the investment adviser to the Indonesian government from 2009-10.
In his current post, he will be working closely with state exco member for Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Phee Boon Poh as the latter’s portfolio deals specifically with the eradication of hardcore poverty in Penang.
