THANKS to the Penang government, an additional 10 students from the Padang Kota constituency qualified to receive a new series of tablets under the state’s ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’.
Eight of them were present to receive the tablets while the remaining two could not make it to the event. The duo would be handed the devices later.
Accompanied by their parents, the eligible students were beaming with joy after receiving the brand-new tablets from Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
The tablets were sponsored by Prominent Sound Sdn Bhd, which had contributed 44
tablets last week.
Azmi Awang, 54, told Buletin Mutiara that he was delighted with the state’s effort to prioritising the importance of digital learning.
“Due to Covid-19 pandemic and movement control order (MCO), my eight-year-old daughter’s learning progress has been slightly affected.
“With the new gadget received, this will indeed assist my daughter in her online education.
“I hope the state will continue with its good work,” said the ex-army serviceman, who stays in Taman Manggis, when met at Chow’s service centre in Arratoon Road today.
Another parent, Loh Boon Yew, 47, was full of praise for the state after her daughter had received the gift.
“I applaud the state for coming out with such initiative in a bid to ensure the children can continue to cope with their study despite the challenging times.
“At least, my daughter can now study in a better learning environment,” said Loh.
Muhammad Khalil Hashim, 36, also shared similar views with other parents who have lauded the state’s effort.
“It really helps to ease my burden as I don’t need to fork out a huge chunk of money to purchase any computer gadget.
“With this, I am confident that my daughter will be able to cope much better with her studies. Thanks again to the state and sponsors for this programme,” he added.
Chow once again thanked Prominent Sound Sdn Bhd for their kind contribution.
“So far, some 1,000 students have benefitted from the ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’.
“We selected the recipients from the needy families in Padang Kota.
“This will help them in their online learning as computer gadgets are much needed although schools are set to open in stages from March 1,” said Chow.
The ‘E-Learning Computer Programme’, which was launched by the state on May 21 last year, is to assist needy students who do not have computers so that they can take part in e-learning.
Also present were Lau Keng Ee, who is Chow’s special affairs officer in Padang Kota, Prominent Sound Sdn Bhd managing director Khaw Lay Ne and legal adviser Lim Choo Hooi.
