THE Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak has appointed three new Trustees of the Silver Jubilee Home For The Aged at his official residence, Seri Mutiara, this afternoon.
They are former state executive councillor Datuk Seri Chong Eng, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, and Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also the Penang and Province Wellesley Silver Jubilee Fund Board of Trustees chairman as entrusted under Section 3(1) of the Penang and Province Wellesley Jubilee Fund Act 1965, thanked the Yang di-Pertua Negeri for appointing the three new Trustees.
The land which houses the Silver Jubilee Home and the unutilised portion of vacant land within its premises belong to the Penang and Province Wellesley Silver Jubilee Fund.
“As the Honourable Tun is aware, the Silver Jubilee Home For The Aged, located on Jalan Sungai Dua, Penang, is a community initiative that originated from the aspirations of the late Cheah Leong Keah, several decades ago.
“The late Cheah was dedicated to ensuring the ongoing well-being of the underprivileged elderly population in Penang.
“The state executive council (exco) met on Dec 6 to nominate the three individuals for the consideration of the Honourable Tun. This was following the resignation of the previous Trustees and to prevent any disruption to the management and operations of the Silver Jubilee Home For The Aged,” Chow said in his speech.
He mentioned that the appointment period for Chong Eng and Sim as the Silver Jubilee Home For The Aged Trustees is from Dec 7, 2023, to Dec 31, 2024.
Meanwhile, the appointment period for Kumaresan is from Jan 1, 2024, to Dec 31, 2024.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate and commend all three of them for accepting this responsibility to safeguard the interests and well-being of the residents of the Silver Jubilee Home For The Aged.
“It is my sincere hope that the new appointments today will continue the legacy of the late Cheah Leong Keah.
“Before concluding my speech, allow me to express the gratitude of the Penang government to the former Trustees – Bernard Kok Yin Fook, Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping, and Datuk Loh Yeow Boo – for their dedicated service to the Silver Jubilee Home For The Aged,” he added.
Also present was state Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim.
