New World Park Food City sets record with grand display of over 12,000 mini flags

THE New World Park Food City entered the Malaysia Book of Records for displaying the most number of mini state flags at its premises during a simple ceremony held in conjunction with the Malaysia Day celebration in Jalan Burmah, George Town today.

 

Heng Leng Heng, the food court’s operations director, received the MBR award from MBR chief operating officer Christopher Wong amidst an air of festivity, witnessed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and several distinguished guests.

“We took about two months to put up 12,075 mini flags of all the states of Malaysia as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

 

“We wanted to do something special this year to celebrate both Merdeka Day (Aug 31) and Malaysia Day (Sept 16). And we are glad that many patrons and tourists find our display and decoration to their liking.

 

Heng gets the inspiration to display over 12,000 mini flags at the New World Park Food City after watching the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

 

“It is an honour and pride for all Penangites.

 

“I would like to thank all the stall operators, customers, business partners and the media for their friendly support and all my employees for their hard work in completing this wonderful project,” Heng said at the ceremony.

 

The numerous mini flags of all the states in Malaysia on display at the New World Park Food City.

 

He shared that the inspiration for this grand display came from watching the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

 

Chow congratulated the New World Park Food City for fostering a sense of patriotism through their display of mini-state and national flags.

 

He said as soon as he stepped into the New World Park Food City and saw the numerous state flags and Jalur Gemilang, he felt a deep sense of pride.

 

Chow says the grand display of mini-state and national flags evokes a deep sense of national pride.

 

“This is a demonstration of unity and love for the country. This is not just a record feat, but also a source of pride for the state. Penang Boleh!

 

“Thank you New World Park Food City management for being innovative and creative to come out with this initiative to contribute to the development of the Penang’s tourism industry.

 

“This is one destination local and foreign tourists must visit,” Chow said in his speech.

 

H’ng says New World Park Food City has also significantly promoted Penang’s cuisine.

 

State Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, who was also present, said the New World Park Food City’s meticulous operation and management have significantly promoted Penang’s cuisine.

 

He said the food court has certainly helped enhance Penang’s reputation globally as a food paradise.

 

“The dazzling display of the state flags and national flags seen today not only promotes patriotism but also leaves visitors in awe of the spectacular sight,” H’ng said.

 

The event was further enriched by cultural performances.

 

Also present were State Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang, Chief Minister’s political secretary Lau Keng Ee, Penang Island City Council councillor Alan Lim Wei, PBB Properties chief executive officer Low Eng Hooi, Passion of Kerala proprietor Datuk Gary Nair, Tan Ah Kee Education Fund founder Datuk Seri Peh Weng Khim, New World Park Food City manager Tan Chin Joo and New World Park Food City chief financial officer Khor Boon Whang.

In a meaningful gesture, Khor presented a mock cheque for RM10,000 on behalf of New World Park Food City to Peh as a contribution to the Tan Ah Kee Education Fund.
