THE Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merit Society in Penang has again answered the call to help the state Remand Prison and the Penang Hospital by contributing multipurpose folding beds.
Its commissioner Khoo Boo Leong said the society donated 202 multipurpose folding beds to the prison authorities and 50 to the Penang Hospital.
“We were informed that the beds are to be placed at the low-risk Covid centre, which has been set up at the prison.
“The beds will be used by the prison staff and inmates.
“The beds which are given to the Penang Hospital can help to cater for the sudden surge of positive Covid-19 patients,” he said when contacted today.
Khoo said the contributions were part of the society’s efforts to help the frontliners during these trying times.
At the time of this report, the Penang Remand Prison cluster has recorded 159 active Covid-19 cases, including a death case recently.
Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a press conference today has announced that the Penang Remand Prison and its quarters would be placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).
The EMCO in these two areas will take effect from Oct 15 to 28.
