THE Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah has played an integral role in guiding and developing the youths in Jalan Kedah and its vicinity.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised the non-governmental organisation (NGO) for playing a pivotal role in assisting the youths since 2011.
“They lend a helping hand to the needy youths, assisting with their career development, providing education opportunities and curbing social illness in the community.
“Many of the youths who received assistance from the NGO have now successfully become businessmen and corporate leaders.
“That’s why I am glad that the Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah has managed to transform many youths into a better version of themselves,” he said in his speech during the rebranding of Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Jalan Kedah at Cititel today.
Chow was pleased with the role of Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah.
“It’s time for the organisation to rebrand its name from Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah to Pertubuhan Kebajikan Jalan Kedah.
“This initiative will expand the role of the NGO, and most importantly assist the youths,” said Chow.
He described the restructuring, rebranding and replacement of this NGO as important for the betterment of the people.
“We have also contributed RM42,200 to the NGO to organise its activities,” he said.
Chow also appreciated the commitment of other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Penang.
On the request by Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah to have land in Jalan Kedah for its activities, Chow said he would discuss the matter with the Penang Development Corporation (PDC).
Earlier, Persatuan Belia Jalan Kedah chairman Dawood Musaqim Inayashulla thanked Chow for the assistance rendered.
“We hope for a better future for our youths in Jalan Kedah,” he said.
Among those present were Penang Island City council (MBPP) councillor Wong Yuee Harng and the NGO’s members.
