TOUTED as the first initiative of its kind in Penang, the Pertubuhan Penyayang Teratai Kasih is assisting elderly residents in Pengkalan Kota by providing them with borrowed medical equipment to meet their needs.

Established five years ago, Pertubuhan Penyayang Teratai Kasih has set up a centre at Pintasan Cecil 2, George Town, to store essential medical equipment meant for residents in the constituency.

Speaking at the launch of the centre today, its founder, Anthony Lim, said the initiative aims to provide care for those in need.

“Anyone requiring medical equipment can seek assistance from us, and we will do our best to help them.

“We have a wide range of medical equipment, namely electric and manual hospital beds, mattresses, transfer chairs, commode chairs, suction machines, nebulisers, and wheelchairs,” he said.

Lim added that applicants only need to pay a RM100 deposit, and there is no time limit on how long they can borrow the equipment.

He also mentioned that individuals outside the Pengkalan Kota constituency may apply for medical equipment, subject to availability.

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, who attended the event, expressed gratitude to Lim and his team for their tireless efforts.

“Pengkalan Kota is a high-density area, and this initiative will greatly benefit those in need.

“I believe this non-governmental organisation (NGO) is playing a crucial role in supporting the community,” he said, adding that such efforts contribute to improving the state’s happiness index.

Also present at the event was Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Alan Lim Wei Lun.
