THE water supply in north and central Seberang Perai has fully recovered, confirmed by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow at 3pm today.

“If specific areas in the northern and central districts of Seberang Perai still lack water, particularly in high-rise buildings like flats and apartments, the issue likely stems from internal problems such as malfunctioning water pumps or tanks within those respective apartments,” he said.

Chow added that the south Seberang Perai district is at 60% recovery, expected to reach 100% by today or early tomorrow (Jan 12).

Chow added that the south Seberang Perai district is at 60% recovery, expected to reach 100% by today or early tomorrow (Jan 12).

“Despite this, I extend my gratitude to all the voluntary fire brigades in the state for their close collaboration with the Penang government and unwavering commitment to providing water to the affected areas.

“However, it’s crucial to remain cautious. The success of the operation can only be declared when every consumer, even at the furthest end of the line, has their water supply fully restored,” he told a press conference when he visited the Valdor Voluntary Fire Brigade Association in Bukit Tambun today.

Responding to inquiries about the water supply recovery status on the island, Chow mentioned that the northeast district has achieved an 85% recovery as of 1.30pm today.

“However, the southwest district faces slower progress in water supply recovery, primarily due to numerous areas being situated at the ‘end of the line’ (EOL).

“Nevertheless, upon the complete normalisation of water supply across Seberang Perai and the northeast district, all voluntary fire brigades, along with water tankers from other states, will mobilise to provide assistance to residents in the southwest district,” he said.

Also present at the media conference were Penang Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye and Bukit Tengah assemblyman Gooi Hsiao-Leung.
