THE Naam Nursing Home, which is located in No.18, Jalan Pinhorn, Penang, needs financial assistance for the maintenance work of its premises.
Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong, who visited the home this morning, said the repair work of the roof tiles is estimated to cost about RM27,000.
“The nursing home was established some 32 years ago, and they have been providing the elderly care services at this premises for about 20 years.
“There are a total of 33 occupants here, four of them are taken care of without any charges. The home receives a maximum of RM1,000 service fee for 30% of the occupants.
“For the rest, small tokens, ranging from RM300 to RM350, are paid to the home for their services. The home accepts the elderly from poor families as well.
“I hope the public and well-wishers can come forward to give their contribution to the home so as to provide a conducive environment for the senior citizens housed here.
“The estimated cost excludes other maintenance works,” Ong said.
He also pleaded to non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to chip in when they send abandoned senior citizens to the home.
“I hope that those NGOs who send the elderly people here to at least contribute some amount to help the home sustain their caregiving services.
“After I became the state representative for this constituency, I was informed of the services provided by the Naam Nursing Home.
“Since then, I have been helping the home by providing them with some groceries, especially adult diapers which are needed in big volume monthly,” Ong added.
Those who would like to donate can either call its founder, BabySelvarani Balasingam at 0124645366 or bank in to Naam Nursing Centre at 507031622965 (Maybank).
