THE Scouts Association of Malaysia (Penang) has entered the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) this year for achieving the ‘Highest Altitude JOTA-JOTI Station in Malaysia’.
National Scouts chief commissioner Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Zin Bidin said JOTA-JOTI (Jamboree On The Air & Jamboree On The Internet) brings together over two million Scouts annually for a weekend of Scouting and friendship.
“It enables Scouts worldwide to meet using radio and the Internet for cultural understanding. It also continues to attract a large crowd and connect fellow Scouts,” he said in his speech during the closing ceremony at The TOP, Komtar today.
Some 300 Scouts took part in the JOTA-JOTI event there this year.
Penang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the JOTA-JOTI programme was believed to be the largest digital Scouting programme in the world, with the participation of over two millions Scouts from 172 countries.
“The programme is in line with the Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’. The Penang2030 vision stresses on smart information technology skills to drive the state’s development forward.
“I congratulate the Scouts Association of Malaysia (Penang) for entering the MBOR.
“I believe that achievement can be a great motivation for the Scouts to do better in the future,” he said in his closing speech.
Meanwhile, the Scouts Association of Malaysia and Magnificent Empire Sdn Bhd signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly work on a STEM centre project at The TOP in Komtar.
Soon hoped that the collaboration could produce more young talent in Penang.
Only World Group founder and chief executive officer Tan Sri Richard Koh represented Magnificent Empire Sdn Bhd, while Prof Mohd Zin represented the Scouts Association of Malaysia during the signing of the MoU.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Magnificent Empire Sdn Bhd operations director Ho Fah Ching and Malaysia Scouts Council deputy president Datuk Ahmad Shazily Ismail Bakti.
