Over 40 schoolchildren learn basic basketball skills

A TOTAL of 42 children, below 12 years old, had a fun time learning some amazing skills from the participants of the Asia Conference of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3×3 U23 Nations League 2022 at the main atrium of Prangin Mall today.

 

Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng said the interaction session was specially arranged during the one-day break of the tournament to provide an opportunity for the kids in Penang to learn and gain knowledge from the experienced basketball players. The tournament, which started on July 25, ends on July 31.

“I thank and appreciate the coaches and players from Thailand, Mongolia, Japan, China, Vietnam and Malaysia for imparting their skills and knowledge to the children,” Teh said in his speech. He was representing state Youth and Sports chairman Yeoh Soon Hin at the event.

 

“As the state assemblyman of Komtar, I am truly proud that such a prestigious tournament is being held at Prangin Mall in the heart of George Town.

 

“Prangin Mall, which started its business in 2001, consists of plenty of shops. It is also located near 1st Avenue Mall, Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Komtar and ICT Digital Mall.

 

“I hope that the delegates, coaches and players will get to travel around and discover the beauty of Penang during their time here.

 

“Also, I hope they will get to attend the Penang Bon Odori Festival at the Esplanade this coming Saturday (July 30) from 5pm to 11pm. The festival is organised by the Penang government, through the Penang State Exco Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE).”

He also congratulated the first, second and third stop winners in the past three days. They were: 1st Stop winners (Men – China, Women – China, 2nd Stop Winners (Men – Japan, Women – Japan) and 3rd Stop Winners (Men – Mongolia, Women – Japan).

 

Also present at the coaching clinic were Malaysia Basketball Association (MBA) deputy president cum Penang Basketball Association (PBA) president Datuk Ooi Khoon Yeong, MBA secretary Tan Kee Hian, JMB Prangin Mall chairman Datuk Hng Ban Choon and PBA secretary Tan Chee Wan.
