THE Penang government continues to prioritise public welfare, as reflected in the disbursement of RM54.8 million under the i-Sejahtera programme.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the sum benefited a total of 284,095 individuals during the tabling of the Penang 2025 Budget at the State Legislative Assembly today.
Additionally, the Mutiara Food Bank initiative, established in 2017 to support the underprivileged, has collected a whopping 1,880 tonnes of food, assisting 120,614 individuals.
“This is an effort that was set up to accommodate the welfare needs of the less fortunate, and we are thankful for the assistance we have continuously received from strategic partners to make this programme a success,” Chow (PH-Padang Kota) said.
The second term of the State Assembly for the year 2024 officially convened today at the State Assembly Building in Light Street.
Chow also thanked the Federal Government for introducing the National Social Policy 2030. In line with this effort, the state government has allocated RM612,500 to the Social Development portfolio, helmed by state executive councillor Lim Siew Khim.
He also said the state government has set aside RM150,000 this year to support and promote understanding of non-Islamic religious affairs, reflecting its proactive approach to fostering inclusivity.
