THE Merdeka online photography and video contest, with the tagline ‘Malaysia Mekar Dihatiku,’ organised by Buletin Mutiara, received a good response from the public, especially the youngsters.

It is learned that a total of 206 entries were submitted for the contest.

Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) deputy general manager Datin S. Bharathi, a member of the jury for the competition, said it is a good platform for the young generation to express their love for the state as well as the country.

“The contest would help to unleash talents among the young people and at the same time instil in them a sense of pride for our state and nation.

“We hope more participants will take part in this competition in the future as well as we want to have more contestants from diverse backgrounds,” Bharathi said during the final round of selecting the winners at the Buletin Mutiara’s office today.

The first prize winner would be receiving RM800, followed by RM600 for the second prize and RM400 for the third prize winner.

Along with the online and photography contests, the winners of the Bakat Si Cilik’s colouring and poster drawing contest with the tagline ‘Kemerdekaan Dijunjung, Warisan Dikekalkan’ were also chosen.

The top three winners of the Bakat Si Cilik’s colouring contest will be receiving RM600 (1st prize), RM400 (2nd prize) and RM200 (3rd prize) respectively. Five consolations will also be given to the participants.

For the poster drawing contest, the first prize is RM700, the second prize RM500 and the third prize RM300.

The other two judges were state Economic Planning Department (BPEN) assistant secretary Zulkamal Hassan and Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee.

Meanwhile, Zulkamal, who is a jury member for the first time, said the competition helps to portray Penang’s uniqueness.

“We know that Penang is a multiracial state, and that can be reflected through this competition. Just like what Datin Bharathi said, we hope that more prizes can be given to the winners,” he added.

Lee said the winners were selected based on their creativity and the originality of their work.

Apart from that, the winners of another competition, called Silang Kata ‘Dari Gabenor Ke TYT,’ which was jointly organised by Buletin Mutiara and Penang State Museum and Art Gallery were also chosen.
