ABOUT 95% of voters are supportive of the Unity candidates based on the state constituencies he has visited so far, Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chow Kon Yeow said.
He said such assessment was solely based on a series of his walkabouts since the start of the election campaign on July 29.
“Only a handful of them support Perikatan Nasional (PN), but the majority of them are with us.
“Currently, our campaign is carried out smoothly as we are now in the third gear. I believe we will move into gear four or five in the next couple of days,” he told reporters after attending the opening of Datok Keramat election operation centre today.
After seven days of campaign, Chow said their target remains to secure 30 to 32 seats.
“We hope it would be achieved,” he said, while pointing out that the number of fence sitters was minimal.
In his speech earlier, Chow urged all the Unity election machinery to go all out in the remaining seven days of campaign.
“The Unity candidates must go all out to campaign the remaining week in a serious manner.
“It is important for us to utilise the remaining days to meet the voters to understand them better and to secure their votes.
“Although our opponents are seemingly not active in the first week of campaign in the northeast district so far, we must not be complacent but continue our hard work to meet every constituents,” he said.
Chow, who is also the caretaker Chief Minister, has been pleased with the state government’s performance ever since PH took over Penang in 2008.
“I believe the people in Penang can witness our achievements during our three-term ruling. We will strive to lift the state to greater heights if given another mandate by the voters,” he said.
On the upcoming various infrastructure and road projects, Chow said this was a golden era to lay a strong foundation for the state to grow.
“We want a balance and holistic development that not only focuses on mega projects, but also gives equal attention to welfare and social development to improve the quality of lives.
“We also want Penangites to be happy with the governance and performance of the elected representatives. The happiness index of the people here is over 70% based on a research carried out by the Penang Institute,” he added.
DAP Datok Keramat’s candidate Jagdeep Singh Deo hoped the voters would look at the state’s performance after PH took over since 2008.
Among those present were Jelutong MP R.S.N Rayer, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abd Rashid, Batu Lancang candidate Ong Ah Teong, Sungai Pinang candidate Lim Siew Khim and Komtar candidate Teh Lai Heng.
