PARTS of Jalan Air Itam from the junction of Kampung Pisang to Jalan Rambutan will be partially closed until Sept 26 for drainage upgrading works.
Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng said road users should expect slight delays along the 200m stretch of road from 11am until 8pm daily.
“The drainage upgrading works started two days ago (Aug 21). The Public Works Department (PWD) workers are stationed here to ensure the traffic flow is smooth when the works are carried out.
“The cost of these works is estimated at RM200,000. The works are meant to ensure a smooth drainage flow in the area.
“The components of this project include site cleaning work, utility mapping, and upgrading of drainage,” he told reporters during his visit to the site in Air Itam today.
Ng said many market-goers would visit Air Itam Market, especially during the morning.
“Hence, motorists can use the alternative route in Jalan Zoo to avoid the hassle when the drainage upgrading works are being carried out,” he said.
Ng thanked PWD, and police officers for manning the traffic flow.
Among those present during the press conference were Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillors Tan Soo Siang, Lee Wei Seang, and Rohaizat Hamid.
