THREE roads – Lebuh Pantai, Lebuh Gereja and Gat Lebuh Gereja – will be partially closed on July 7 (Friday) from midnight to 11am in conjunction with the 5km George Town Discovery Walk.

Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Tan Soo Siang advised those heading to George Town on that day to utilise public transport or e-hailing services due to the road closures and additional events taking place in the area to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the inscription of George Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

She also advised the public to refrain from littering during the walk, but instead to love and take care of the environment.

TLM Event executive director C.K. Ewe said approximately 2,000 participants would be taking part in the walk. It will start at OCBC Bank at Lebuh Pantai at 7am and cover Lebuh Light, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Lebuh Chulia, and Lebuh Carnavon.

“The George Town Discovery Walk acts as a community event that takes participants on a 5-km walk around the inner city to explore the rich history and heritage. The walk also allows participants to admire George Town’s iconic historical buildings, including the places of worship and pre-war shophouses,” Ewe said.

The non-competitive walk is part of the annual Heritage Day celebrations by George Town World Heritage Incorporated, organised by TLM Event, and endorsed by the state government. It is supported by MBPP.
