THE art of baking is pleasing and beautifully rewarding. After you master it, the next big thing to do is to learn how to make your cakes and cupcakes look more beautiful, and that is exactly what Jenifer Dominick has been doing for the past 12 years.
It was not easy for Jenifer to leave her job as an administrator in a multinational company and pursue her dream as a baker.
However, she took the leap of faith and she established the Jenvin Bakery and Confectionery.
Jenifer, 42, said she discovered her passion in baking back in 2009, when her son insisted that he wanted her to bake him a cake for his birthday.
“My son wanted his favourite cartoon characters, made of edible arts, be part of the cake.
“I had to Google the decorations he wanted for his cake and I slowly developed interest in baking.
“If there is one person who has inspired me to pursue my dream, it’s my son,” the Penangite said in an interview at her shop in Bandar Baru Air Itam today.
Jenifer said that she could now bake various types of cakes and cupcakes according to her customers’ needs.
“We are specialised in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian cakes and cookies for all occasions. We also provide hi-tea packages, popcorn corner, candy buffet, chocolate fountain, desserts, door gifts and more.
“Our signature cake is the sugee almond cake,” she said.
Some of her cakes were decorated with the logos of renowned football clubs such as Liverpool and Arsenal, while others include superhero figurines.
Jenifer said her business, like many others, was affected during the implementation of the movement control order (MCO).
“I thank my loyal customers for their continuous support during the MCO. We are able to carry on despite the MCO because of their support.
“My husband, Gerald, is my driving force. He often encourages me not to give up,” she said.
