PAYA Terubong Pakatan Harapan candidate Wong Hon Wai is no stranger to the huge Paya Terubong state constituency.

He bought his first home and raised his children in Paya Terubong back then.

“I am very familiar with Paya Terubong.

“Paya Terubong holds a special place in my heart. My first home was in Desa Permata.

“I stayed there back then, and my children grew up there as well.

“In addition, I frequently jog in the area too, especially for the past two years.

“Honestly, I am delighted to be back to Paya Terubong, hoping to serve the constituents,” said Wong, who is also the Penang DAP election director, during the opening of his election operation centre in Jalan Ru today.

Wong pledged to improve Paya Terubong’s livability if he wins the state seat.

“I hope to bring more sustainable development to Paya Terubong,” he said.

Caretaker Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present during the opening of the operation centre, lauded Wong’s contributions to the party.

“Before being named as the Paya Terubong candidate, Wong was formerly the Air Itam assemblyman in 2008. He was also the former state executive councillor back then.

“He had also served as the Bukit Bendera MP from 2018 to 2022 and had been vocal in Parliament.

“He was also my candidate agent when I contested in 1999.

“Overall, Wong is an experienced politician after he entered politics in 1997,” Chow said.

Chow also urged voters to return home to cast their votes on Aug 12.

“We have administered Penang for the past three terms, since 2008. If we were not faring well, I believe the voters would have already ‘kicked’ us out after one term.

“Various transformations can be seen in Penang since 2008, and we hope to continue bringing betterment to the people,” he added.

Chow also expressed his gratitude to all parties who had contributed to the state’s growth over the years.

Also present were national DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, Jelutong MP R.S.N. Rayer, Kluang MP Wong Shu Qi, Tanjung MP Lim Hui Ying, Air Itam candidate Joseph Ng, and party volunteers.
