IT is important that we stand united to uphold peace, foster solidarity, and contribute toward greater achievements, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow shared this during the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the Cenotaph (Penang War Memorial) at the Esplanade today.

“We owe the peace we enjoy today to the courage and immense sacrifices of all our servicemen and women, and veterans, who have defended our nation and its people.

“As we move forward, we must also look back to remember the contributions of the veterans who safeguarded the freedom and sovereignty of our country.

“I believe their services can never be repaid. However, this solemn ceremony at the Penang Cenotaph serves as a reminder to honour their bravery and sacrifices and to emphasise that war must be avoided at all costs,” he said.

Chow also urged everyone to contribute towards everlasting peace.

“I stand with you in solidarity, regardless of nationality, race, or colour, to remember and honour these fallen heroes.

“The state government will continue to provide all the support we can,” he added.

The wreath-laying ceremony on Remembrance Day serves as a gesture to honour our fallen heroes.

Also present were Ruzina Hasan, representing the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur; Baliram Prasad Dhami, representing the Ambassador of Nepal; representatives of the Penang Veteran Association; and other distinguished guests.
