PENANG International Travel Exchange (PITE) was launched today at the Khoo Kongsi clan house.
PITE is a homegrown travel exchange initiated by Penang Convention and Exhibition Bureau ( PCEB) that aspires to position Penang as the leading Business Events and Travel destination in Asia Pacific.
Exco for Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Yeoh Soon Hin, who was the guest of honour at the PITE launch stated that the state government is committed to continue developing the tourism sector and to continue showcasing the proud heritage and history of Penang.
“Since Georgetown was bestowed the UNESCO Heritage status in 2008, the tourism industry has played an important role in building the economy for Penang.
“People across the world, come here to relive history through the many mansions and colonial buildings in Penang.
“They also get the opportunity to know traditions and businesses that can be traced back more than 50 years ago,” said Yeoh in his speech at the event.
PITE will be held over five days, from Sept 4 to 8.
One of the key components of PITE is the B2B session (Business to Business session) for Malaysian Business Events and Tourism suppliers to showcase their products and services to the Indian buyers.
Some 40 over Malaysian suppliers have signed up for the B2B session.
CEO of PCEB Aswin Gunasekeran, who was also present at the launch, said that the first edition of PITE sees Penang hosting India’s leading travel product, the Global Panorama Showcase (GPS).
“GPS is conducting its first Educational Destination Workshop-International (EDWIN) in Malaysia at PITE.
“For the past few months PCEB has partnered and participated in GPS roadshows in 8 cities together with Penang’s new home-based Professional Conference Organizer- Apollo Conference.
“PITE is a follow-through initiative from the successful roadshow for Penang to be constantly active in the Indian market,” said Ashwin.
