PARTS of the pedestrian walkways, measuring about 580 metres from the junction of Jalan Ibetson to Jalan Grove in Air Itam, are currently undergoing upgrades.
The project, which commenced its upgrading works on Aug 12 this year, is scheduled for completion on Jan 11 next year.
Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, who was present to observe the works in progress, stated that the project, costing RM395,050, is funded by the Federal Government.
“We hope that the public and pedestrians will have a more convenient experience along the walkways, complemented by proper drainage,” Ng said.
“The road is busy, especially during peak hours leading to the Air Itam township. There has even been an accident due to uneven sidewalks and road surfaces.
“With this upgrading work, which includes widening the road shoulders, we believe the public will benefit,” he added.
Ng pointed out that construction is being carried out from 10am to 6pm to minimise traffic disruption.
“For the road surface work, construction will take place late at night to avoid impacting road users,” he said, urging motorcyclists not to ride on the walkways after the upgrades are completed.
Also present were MBPP Engineering Department director Cheah Chin Kooi, and MBPP councillors Rohaizat Abdul Hamid and Tan Soo Siang.
