PENANG-BASED companies have the potential to establish themselves as household names on both national and international platforms, with the right drive and determination.
At the 55th anniversary celebration of Teong Huat Medical Sdn Bhd at The Light Hotel in Seberang Jaya tonight, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed hope that local enterprises would rise to capture overseas markets and gain global recognition.
“While Penang attracts many foreign investors, there is still room for improvement when it comes to local companies breaking into the international scene.
“I hope more Penang enterprises, especially Teong Huat Medical Sdn Bhd, can take on this challenge and achieve international success,” Chow said.
He commended Teong Huat Medical Sdn Bhd for its remarkable transformation from a pharmaceutical manufacturer into a leading local brand in the medical plaster industry.
He also noted the company’s numerous recognitions in recent years as a testament to its outstanding achievements.
The company’s chief operating officer, Derrick Chen, attributed its success to the dedication and sacrifices of its staff, stressing their invaluable contributions to the business.
A highlight of the evening was the company’s recognition by the Malaysian Book of Records for being the largest distributor of medical plasters in Malaysia from May last year to April this year.
Teong Huat Medical Sdn Bhd distributed an impressive 111,388 packs during this period.
The recognition ceremony was witnessed by Chow, along with Derrick and chief executive officer Chen Teak Huat.
In addition to celebrating its milestone, Teong Huat Medical Sdn Bhd presented a RM30,000 mock cheque to Persatuan Dermawan Jishan Bukit Mertajam as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
The event was attended by notable guests, including Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Syn Tze, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, and former state assemblymen Datuk Soon Lip Chee and Datuk Seri Phee Boon Poh.
