PENANG has successfully organised the state-level Family Day for the third consecutive year.

This year’s launching was held via online, marking it the second time the event was held this way due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the theme for Penang Family Day 2021, ‘Happy Family, Bright Future’ (Keluarga Bahagia, Masa Depan Cerah), carries a fundamental value in building a happy family.

“We are able to celebrate one of the most important events despite being in this challenging Covid-19 period.

“We may not be able to hold a large scale Family Day event like we did in 2019. However, it does not prevent us from continuing to promote family values for a prosperous, peaceful and progressive society that can, in turn, become a major contributor in the development of the state and country.

“Under the Penang2030 vision of ‘A Family-Focused Green and Smart State that Inspires the Nation’, raising happy families is among its primary aims,” Chow said in his speech before launching the Penang Family Day 2021 via the Zoom webinar at his office in Komtar today.

The state-level Family Day celebration was organised by the Penang government through the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC).

Among those present the virtual programme were Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman, state Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain and state Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng.

Others were Pulau Tikus assemblyman Chris Lee Chun Kit, Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng and PWDC chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng.

Chow also appealed the people to provide moral support and help one another during this trying period.

“Many people are greatly affected by the pandemic. Let us help each other. After all, we are all in this together,” he said.

Chong Eng said there were several activities lined up for the state-level Family Day celebration.

“The activities can be done virtually and indoors.

“The activities include a virtual walk which started today until Aug 21, the ‘Snake and Ladders’ board game family edition (from Aug 9 to Aug 13), the family tree art and craft (from Aug 17 to Aug 21), and the online forum on early childhood education which will be held on Aug 28,” she said.

Chong Eng hoped that the people could take the opportunity to strengthen family ties through the activities available.
