PENANG Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow remains in the top leadership of the newly-elected DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) for the 2025-2028 term.

Chow has defended his position to remain in DAP’s top 30 CEC spots in the party elections today.

He secured 2,101 votes, coming in at 19th place to secure his spot in the CEC.

He was later appointed as a committee member of the new CEC line-up.

Meanwhile, Anthony Loke Siew Fook retained his post as the DAP secretary-general.

The newly-elected DAP CEC decided on this after the 18th DAP Congress at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) in Shah Alam, Selangor today.

The DAP CEC election process was held in conjunction with the party’s 18th National Congress.

A total of 4,203 delegates representing 1,650 branches were eligible to cast their votes in the election.

Chow thanked party branch delegates who voted for him to be included in the new CEC line-up.

Chow previously stated that holding a position within the party is crucial, as it enables him to be part of the leadership team and contribute effectively to the state’s development.

The elected CEC members will lead DAP for the 2025-2028 term. The DAP CEC is the party’s highest decision-making body, responsible for setting its direction, formulating policies, enforcing the party constitution, and taking necessary actions in accordance with it.

The CEC consists of 30 members, democratically elected by branch delegates during the party’s national congress, who have the authority to co-opt 10 additional members. The CEC members will then elect the party’s office bearers, led by the secretary-general.
