PENANG DAP branches intending to nominate candidates for the upcoming state party polls (through the state DAP) must submit their nominations by today, according to Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow.
However, those branches which decide to submit their nominations directly to the national DAP have until Aug 24 to do so.
Chow stated that the Penang DAP is facilitating the submission process for the state party branches, assisting them in submitting their nominations to the national DAP.
“While the Penang DAP is helping branches with their nominations, they still have the option to submit directly to the national DAP,” he clarified during a media conference following the opening of Food Bayana in Bayan Lepas today.
He also emphasised that the state party election process is under the management of the national DAP.
He added that candidates with the support of two branches would be able to contest in the party elections.
The Penang DAP election is on Sept 22.
“As for whether I will be contesting, that is a question that will take some time to answer. I do not even know if I will be nominated or not – it depends on the process of reaching that stage.
“After that, the central committee will send notification letters to the qualified candidates, informing them that they have been nominated.
“The candidates will then be given seven to 14 days to decide whether to accept or decline the nomination.
“Only then can we finalise the list of candidates who will be contesting,” Chow added.
