THE Penang Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) has been praised for adopting the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN) technology to provide flood forecasting and warning services to relevant agencies.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, during his visit to the centre at Komtar today, commended the DID for its preparedness in handling the high tide phenomenon from Oct 17 until today.
“This PRABN technology, developed by the federal DID, has been fully utilised this year. It plays a crucial role in flood forecasting and issuing warnings before relaying the information to the public,” Chow told Buletin Mutiara.
Chow underscored the significant functions provided by PRABN, especially during the high tide phenomenon.
“The public can also access the Public InfoBanjir website to get the latest updates,” he shared.
Earlier, state DID deputy director (Development 2) Mohamad Suaimi Ramli briefed Chow on the tasks being carried out in the operations room.
Chow mentioned that the centre has been operating 24 hours a day during the high tide period and that all state agencies have completed their necessary preparations.
“So far, the central Seberang Perai district, particularly the Cherok Tok Kun locality, has received the highest rainfall,” Chow added.
Accompanying Chow during the visit were state Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari and state DID director Datuk Mohd Nazri Yasmin.
