A TOTAL of 18 organisations were awarded the ESG Pioneer Award, while another eight organisations were recently awarded the ESG Reporting Award at the ‘Penang ESG Award 2024’.
Yayasan Amal TYT Negeri Pulau Pinang chief executive officer Datuk Seri Rozali Mohamud said that his organisation supports the award programme because its initiatives were aligned with the organisation’s vision, which is ‘wellbeing for everyone’.
“This vision serves as a direction that benefits everyone, regardless of religion, race, or background.
“Furthermore, Yayasan Amal TYT Pulau Pinang broadens the concept of welfare to include humans, animals, plants, and the environment.
“We value and promote diversity and inclusion in every aspect of our activities,” he said during the award ceremony held at the G Hotel recently.
ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance practices.
Rozali urged industry entrepreneurs, especially the small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), to take advantage of government’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
It was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2025.
“An allocation of RM3.2 billion in the Devex Budget 2025 (Development Expenditure) will support environmental preservation and climate change initiatives, while another RM3.1 billion will drive industrial growth and a sustainable energy transition,” Rozali added.
He also thanked Universiti Sains Malaysia, Penang Green Council, and Advance Dispute Resolution Centre (ADRC) for their collaboration, along with all parties who contributed to the programme’s success.
It is learned that the Penang ESG Award programme provides SMEs with access to an online web-based system to collect and disclose ESG information using a specified reporting framework.
“Participants can also receive guidance from one of 45 industry experts to support their ESG implementation, reporting, and disclosure efforts.
“This program benefits 66,895 SMEs in Penang,” Rozali said.
