ONLINE gamers can expect a thrilling yet a fun-filled experience at the Penang eSports Championship 2020 soon.
Jointly organised by state-level agency Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) and Estadiums Marketing Sdn Bhd, the two-day event will be held from Oct 10 to 11.
State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said eSports is a growing trend and a new phenomenon throughout the world, especially among the youths.
“This platform (eSports) no longer serves just as an ordinary online gaming ground, but in a Covid-19 stricken time, it is quickly becoming the ‘go to’ online sport for many youngsters.
“Massive thanks to PYDC and Estadiums Marketing Sdn Bhd for organising such an appropriate championship (eSports) in these trying times during Covid-19 pandemic,” Soon told a press conference in Komtar today.
The championship consists of two famous online games. They are Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Honor of Kings.
Soon added that the championship is open to 64 teams, with five members in each team.
“Out of the 64 participating teams, only 16 of the best will qualify for the grand finale to claim glory.
“It is compulsory for each team to have a participant who’s a Penangite, aged between 15 and 30,” Soon added.
Both the games will see the first prize winner walk away with RM2,000 each while the first runners-up, second runners-up and third runners-up will win RM1,500, RM1,000 and RM500 each respectively.
Also present were PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling, and Estadiums Marketing Sdn Bhd directors Tay Hock Tiam, Chen Ern Tze and Soon Lam San.
