PENANG is the best example of the Malaysia Madani spirit, says Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Speaking at the state-level Malaysia Day celebration at Dewan Millenium in Kepala Batas today, Chow highlighted the harmonious coexistence of various communities in the state and their collective contributions to its economic growth.
“For example, the rapid development of Penang’s industrial sector and tourism industry is the result of close cooperation among various parties.
“This reflects the spirit of Malaysia Madani and is the key to Penang’s prosperity.
“The Penang government is committed to ensuring that this prosperity continues to thrive and benefits the people of this state,” Chow said.
The celebration was graced by Penang Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his consort Toh Puan Khadijah Mohd Noor.
Other notable attendees included State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Law Choo Kiang, Deputy Chief Minister I Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid, state Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari and state Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim.
Chow further emphasised the significance of Malaysia Day as an occasion for Penangites to unite.
“Malaysia Day is a time for us, as citizens, to celebrate the country’s formation on Sept 16, 1963, with loyalty, unity and a heightened spirit of patriotism.
“Let us truly be one people of Malaysia, celebrating our unity in diversity, mutual acceptance and respect for all religions, races and cultures,” he said.
Hundreds attended the celebration, enjoying a vibrant cultural and musical extravaganza.
